Black Satsuma used the ground containing iron peculiar to blackish Satsuma
as materials, and has been loved as a
vessel of a life of general people a long time ago. There were many noted

"shiromon" of JUSEN has a fine crack in the warm cloth of milk
white (chestnut ? MU color near white),

when heat cools down, foundation and glaze tend to shrink, respectively.
A crack increases, so that the power in which glaze
is shrunk rather than foundation at this time is large.

人に深い感銘と大きな満足を与え続けています。
薩摩焼は、「白もん(White Basic Body）」と呼ばれる白薩摩と、
「黒もん(Black Basic Body)」と呼ばれる黒薩摩の２つに大別できます。
黒薩摩は鉄分を含んだ黒っぽい薩摩特有の土を原料とし、昔は一般庶民の
生活の器として親しまれてきました。白薩摩は上層階級の使用品や贈答品など、
藩主専用(上流階級)の焼物として親しまれ、花瓶・香炉・茶器などの名品が多く、
加工コストも高いということで庶民からは遠い存在でした。
JUSENの特徴「白もん」は、乳白色（白に近いクリ−ム色）のあたたかみのある
生地に、きめ細かな貫入（ヒビ）があり、さらにその上には繊細な絵が
描かれている。貫入は、白薩摩独特の特徴です。 本焼をしてから熱が冷める
時点で、素地と釉薬がそれぞれ縮まろうとします。このときに、
釉薬の方が素地よりも縮む力が大きいほど貫入は多くなります。

薩摩焼きの歴史は古く、その起源は1598年に遡ると多くの文献に記されている。
時は1598年、徳川幕府が現在の韓国と戦争の際に、薩摩藩主が朝鮮陶工を
捕虜として連れ帰った事が、鹿児島に最初の窯を作るきっかけと成った。
島津義弘公は、陶工の持ってきた白土と上薬で藩主専用の陶器を作らせました。
ここに薩摩焼きの起源が有ります。やがて領内の霧島・指宿辺りで白土が発見
され「白もん」の製作は飛躍的に進歩していきます。藩主の手厚い保護の下、
薩摩焼きの技法は飛躍的に進歩していきます。薩摩焼きが世界人々の目に
初めて留まるのが1866年パリ万博に出品した時のことでした。その後、現在に至るまで
世界中の人々に親しまれています。
